The happy winner of the draw

Following the draw the children went back to their class and had an Easter Egg hunt for a smaller, but delicious chocolate egg to bring home with them.

Our thanks again to the donor of the spectacular hamper.

A very Happy Easter break to everyone.

Then we did marine experiments.  I got teamed with Deirdre and Robyn and we did four experiments on floating and sinking as well as water pressure . My favourite part was when there was a large bucket full of water and it had a black bag stuck on top and there was something inside and we had to feel it and guess what it was. It was great fun. I can’t wait to go again.

We went to visit a Navy ship. The men on the ship showed us around. The ship was called the LE Ciara.We went to the bridge part of the ship, where the captain steers the ship. We saw the radar which shows where a ship will be every three minutes. It is possible for the guns to target things from the bridge of the ship. We targeted a traffic light. The ship has one large gun and two smaller ones.The guns on the ship could spin around to aim at different things. We were also told to go down the steps of the ship backwards to be safe. We went to the Engine room, the engines made a lot of noise! There were 40 crew members. There were 2 water hoses to put out fires, one was filled with bubbles and the other one was just water. We made foam in the water and we nearly sank a small boat. Two men showed us the safety equipment used if there was a fire on the ship. There was a thermal imaging camera that showed heat from bodies. One man showed us a plastic bag attached to an oxygen bag so if there is a fire you put the plastic bag over your head and turn up the oxygen. all of the crew members wore navy uniforms. After the tour around the ship we got badges and pens. We had a great time. Third Class.

Erin, along with her 13 classmates in 1st Class went to Cork Pops, she wrote..

On Tuesday we went to the Cork Pops. We were singing and dancing one of the songs from Charlie and the Chocolate factory. And other songs were really great too. The Lord mayor came to talk to us and lots of other schools were there. We were in the balcony and some schools were in the stalls

I loved the Cork Pops and I can’t wait to go again. There was a singer and she had a great voice. She was so good and we had such fun. My favourite song was Don’t Stop believing.There were violins. a double bass, a trumpet. flute and lots of other instruments.

Cian and Guzzler from the Lifetime Lab visited Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First and Second Classes on Thursday 26th January.  Cian is a scientist and Guzzler is a 70 year old alien who travels around in Cians backpack.  Cian explained all about how Guzzler keeps wasting energy and how he is training Guzzler to change his ways.

Cian demonstrated the energy in bouncing balls and how the energy can be passed on between them.
